barack obama: the final throes!
"That's why Giblets is so certain this final crippling blow to the Obama candidacy will be the finalest and most crippling of them all...Giblets doesn't need to wait for "polls" or "data" or "actual facts" when he has the sound judgment of real authentic heartland folk like Chris Matthews and George Will and Hillary Clinton!"
It is amazing to me that people get so inspired by hope. If you're still on the fence for either party, please, please read up on the issues. Think hard about who you want representing us as a nation to the rest of the world as we battle through this fractured and crazy time. Who can do good things for all of us, and has the potential to help a nation that is so much more than red and blue.
Regardless of who you choose, go vote your ass off on Tuesday.
Barack Obama announced his candidacy today, and includes, among other things, the chance to blog* about what he's messaging as "our campaign" at my.barackobama.com. This is really taking political blogging to a whole new level, both in message and substance.
Even the campaign logo is rather Web 2.0, wouldn't you say?
I think Andrew Sullivan (on a TypePad blog!) neatly counters a lot of the baseless criticism that people level at Barack about stupid shit like his name and age, as though that's how you should define a person:
"Electing a half-African president, with Hussein as a middle name, who attended school in a Muslim country: it's almost a p.r. agent's dream for America. It would instantly give this country a fresh start in the world after the disaster of the Bush-Cheney years. It isn't enough: Obama will need skills and determination in the terror war. But soft power helps; and Obama would put it on steroids. As for youth, Tony Blair was 43 when he became prime minister; Obama would be 48. What's the problem?"
*I'm pretty sure it's a Movable Type driven effort, as it was done by our friends at Blue State Digital, and hovering over
one of the command buttons says "Tiny MCE" at one point. MT geeks, can
you tell for sure?
Tomorrow I'll be working at our local polling place, helping you the voter from 6AM to whenever. I read today that if you picture yourself voting, you're more likely to go and actually do so. Remember - you don't get to complain if you don't hold up your end of this crazy American experiment.
I can't get this video to embed on Vox, but [this is good].
As for me, I want to vote for people who respect the same things I do. A candidate who thinks for their peeps. Someone who wants to give everyone the freedom to marry who we want to, rather than having to hide our true selves away and destroying families and communities in the process. Who thinks kids all deserve an education, soldiers should be protected like the heroes that they are, and someone who admits that we got 99 problems and all, but still believes that there's a better tomorrow.
You know, like this guy, except he's not running. (right now.)
